WATERFALLS & WATER FEATURES

Waterfall installation in Yakima: boulder falls set into the rock bed

Boulder waterfalls and fountain features set into rock beds, residential and commercial.

Chapter 01

Boulder layout comes before anything gets set

A waterfall that looks natural is mostly a layout problem. Before a stone moves, the crew works out where the water starts, where it lands and which boulders carry it. The biggest stones form the backbone, and smaller ones step down to meet the pool, so the flow spills across the face of the rock instead of dribbling straight down.

Boulders already anchor many of OMG's rock beds and curbed islands around the Yakima Valley, so moving and setting heavy stone is everyday work for Marco's crew. A feature built into a bed they are already shaping ends up looking like it belongs there.

Liner, pump and basin

Behind the stone is the part nobody sees. A basin is dug and lined so the water has somewhere to return, a pump sends it back to the top, and the plumbing is hidden behind and beneath the boulders.

Getting the basin level and the liner tucked well under the stone matters more than almost anything else. A low spot or a badly folded edge is where a feature quietly loses water. Sizing the pump to the height and width of the fall decides whether you get a soft trickle or a proper sheet of water.

Chapter 03

Planting the rock so it looks settled

A fresh waterfall looks like a pile of stones until it's planted. Ornamental grasses, low shrubs and groundcover go into the pockets around the boulders so the edges soften and the feature settles into the bed.

OMG builds water features at homes and on commercial frontages, in Yakima and across the 50-mile area the crew works. Set inside a curbed bed, the poured curb holds the rock and mulch in around the water.

Water and stone on their jobs

Boulders, fountains and rock gardens the crew has built

Water features rarely stand alone. They sit in rock beds, beside paver patios and inside the wider landscape design and build plan.
